Our
curriculum provides a sound basis of education from a Christian perspective.
All subjects prescribed by the State Board of Education are taught with
educational standards that exceed local, state, and federal guidelines for
public schools.
It is
important to remember that in a Lutheran school all education is
Christ-centered. The fundamental concepts to be taught, the methods used,
and the skills, attitudes and habits which result find basis in the Word of
God, which reveals Jesus Christ, His Son, as our Lord and Savior. Language
arts subjects are taught from a phonetic approach, stressing proper English
grammar and use of vocabulary. We use traditional methods in teaching math,
which have been proven effective. Subjects taught are, but not limited to
the following: Bible History, Christian Doctrine, English, Writing, Science,
History, Geography, Math, Spelling, Reading, Art, Music, and Physical
Education.
With
a low student to teacher ratio, Lakewood Lutheran can offer that extra
measure of attention. Students in grades K – 8 are instructed in music, art,
and foreign language. Band lessons are also available as optional activities.
